Abstract:
Recently a new method was presented for estimating values of the vertical electric current density Jz at the solar photosphere from vector magnetogram data, taking into account uncertainties in the field values (Wheatland 2015). The data provide boundary conditions for nonlinear force-free field (NLFFF) modeling of coronal magnetic fields. The minimum current method was demonstrated in application to synthetic boundary data for a known force-free solution. Here we apply the method to solar vector magnetogram data, and investigate the quality of resulting NLFFF solutions.
