Trends in Aerosol Emissions over Europe and Global Aerosol Forcing
Abstract:
The declining trend in aerosol emissions over Europe since about 1990 and the related “solar brightening” is useful to assess the aerosol radiative forcing. The presentation will firstly demonstrate how the solar brightening as observed by the Global Energy Balance Archive can serve as a constraint on the global aerosol forcing as simulated by the models of the CMIP5 multi-model archive. In a second step, we proceed and disentangle the contribution by the aerosol-cloud interactions focusing on the Baseline Surface Radiation Network stations in combination with satellite observations.
