Radiometric Inter-Comparison between Ozone Mapping Profiler Suite and Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2 on METOp-A/B
Radiometric Inter-Comparison between Ozone Mapping Profiler Suite and Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2 on METOp-A/B
Abstract:
Simultaneous Nadir Overpass (SNO) prediction has been operationally performed at NOAA/NESDIS/STAR to foretell two polar-orbiting satellite over-passing locations and times, temporal and spatial distances, as well as solar zenith angles. The SNO method has been used for radiometric inter-comparison between various satellites including Suomi NPP (S-NPP) VIIRS, Aqua MODIS, AVHRR, GOES and NOAA series mainly in visible, near-infrared and infrared channels. For back-scattered UltraViolet (BUV) radiation sensors, instrument radiometric inter-comparison is more challenging mainly due to the complexities of much weaker UV signals and larger footprints. NOAA/NESDIS/STAR has developed an algorithm for extensive SNO comparisons between the Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) nadir instruments and the Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2 (GOME-2). It is found the reflectance discrepancies between OMPS and GOME-2 on METOp-B are within 5% for NM and 10% for NP.
