How is precipitation from low clouds important for climate?

It is now understood that most low cloud systems over the oceans produce precipitation. What is less clear is how important this precipitation is for modulating the coverage, thickness and radiative properties of low clouds. Here, I will present observational and modeling results suggesting two distinct ways in which light precipitation from low clouds impacts climate.
