What have we learned from “top-down” inferences of surface CO2 fluxes?

Abstract:
The atmosphere mixes, albeit incompletely, the concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere. We shall review “top-down” approaches for inferring CO2 surface fluxes from the temporal and geographic variations of atmospheric CO2 and what we have learned about the contemporary carbon cycle. Outlook for climate treaty verification will be discussed.
