Natural Pb Fluxes to the Southern Ocean from Accelerated Weathering in Antarctica
Natural Pb Fluxes to the Southern Ocean from Accelerated Weathering in Antarctica
Abstract:
While previous studies have documented the predominance of industrial Pb in Antarctic surface ice and Southern Ocean surface waters, new Pb concentration and isotopic composition measurements indicate those industrial Pb fluxes are now decreasing. Moreover, those data also indicate that natural Pb fluxes to the Southern Ocean may be increasing. That apparent increase is tentatively attributed to accelerated weathering along the Marginal Ice Zone, which is associated with climate change.
