Periodic Spacing Plasma Bubbles Observed By GNSS Tecmap over South America

Abstract:
Mapping of Total Electron Content (TECMAP) over South American continent was successfully carried out by using ground-based GNSS receiving network RBMC/IBGE, LISN, IGS and RAMSAC. It was possible to monitor spatial and temporal variation of TEC by two-dimensional form with 10 minutes time resolution. During the period of December 2013 to January 2014, periodic spacing plasma depletion forms (bubbles) along the longitudinal extension were frequently observed. These bubbles have latitudinal extension of more than 2000 km and the longitudinal separation between them were around 500-1000 km. The periodic bubble formation will be discussed in terms of its seeding mechanism.
