Simulation of Convective Atmospheric Boundary Layer Flows Using a Lattice Boltzmann Method
Abstract:
A Lattice Boltzmann model (LBM) prototype was developed recently at Army Research Laboratory. As an initial validation process, we used LBM to simulate the thermally driven flows such as Rayleigh-Benard convection and instability, thermally driven upslope flows. Two-dimensional laboratory data are compared with the simulation results. The scaling parameters were also computed from simulation results to characterize flow physics. The model was extended to simulate convective atmospheric boundary-layer flows over flat and sloped terrain. Some preliminary results will be presented at this meeting.
