GC12B:
Second State of the Carbon Cycle Report (2016):€“ A Special Scientific Assessment of Current Status and Opportunities I

Session ID#: 10358

Session Description:
In 2015, the USGCRP’s U.S. Carbon Cycle Science Program initiated plans for the 2nd State of the Carbon Cycle Report (SOCCR-2).This session will include pertinent updates and recent highlights of carbon cycle syntheses and assessments from the government and community scientists and stakeholders, with potential directions and projections into the future as a result of predicted changes in climate. The focus is on U.S. (national and biogeographical regions) and North American carbon stocks and fluxes, in the context of and interactions with global scale budgets and climate change impacts in managed and unmanaged systems.  Abstracts on carbon stocks and fluxes in soils, water, vegetation, aquatic-terrestrial interfaces (coastal/estuaries/wetlands), human settlements, agriculture, forestry etc. are requested, in addition to those covering relevant carbon management science perspectives and support tools for informing decisions, as addressed in the White House Climate Action Plan (2013), U.S. Carbon Cycle Science Plan (2011) and National Climate Assessment.
Primary Convener:  Dr. Gyami Shrestha, Ph.D., U.S. Carbon Cycle Science Program, Washington, United States
Conveners:  Nancy Cavallaro, USDA/NIFA, Washington, DC, United States, Daniel B Stover, Department of Energy Germantown, Washington, United States and Zhiliang Zhu, U.S. Geological Survey, Reston, United States
