MR23A:
Atomic to Planetary Scales: Multiscale Understanding of Planetary Dynamics I Posters

Session ID#: 10432

Session Description:
The atomic scale underlies our physical understanding of many material properties, e.g. elasticity, and deformation processes, such as diffusion of point defects and movement of dislocations. The collective organisation of these fundamental processes leads to direct links with larger scales; such as crystal aggregates. The response of aggregates to even larger scale process like convective flow provides a link to planetary dynamics. The geophysical and geochemical observables provide constraints on large-scale dynamics that span from the extreme conditions of the planetary interior to the surface conditions. This session focuses on the understanding of physical and chemical processes at a wide range of PT conditions. Contributions from experimental, modelling, sample measurements and large-scale observations are welcome.
