GP11A:
Reconstructing the Secular Variation of the Earth's Magnetic Field in the Past: Recent Methodological Advances and New Palaeomagnetic and Archaeomagnetic Data I

Session ID#: 10753

Session Description:
Historical and instrumental data from satellites and geophysical observatories allow us to understand the spatial and temporal evolution of the geomagnetic field during the last decades. To reconstruct the secular variation of the Earth's magnetic field in older periods the use of well-dated archaeological material, volcanic rocks, lacustrine and marine sediments is necessary. In this session, we invite contributions focused on the acquisition of new directional and archaeointensity palaeomagnetic data for the last 10ky, including archaeomagnetic, lava flows and sedimentary records. The session solicits also contributions about innovative measurement techniques for the acquisition, analysis and interpretation of palaeo- and archaeo-magnetic data and their use in geomagnetic field modeling during Holocene.
