T23F:
Mantle, Crust, and Surface Dynamics in the Mediterranean System III

Session ID#: 10798

Session Description:
In the Mediterranean region, processes as diverse as volcanism, landscape evolution, lithospheric deformation, mantle dynamics, and the long-term carbon cycle are linked in a complex system. Topical questions include how slab dynamics relates to landscape evolution and drainage reorganization, how strain is partitioned in deforming continental lithosphere through time, and how volcanism influences and informs these processes.  Studies of the past and modern Mediterranean system help to identify primary controls on these processes at plate margins, and contribute to unraveling potential feedback mechanisms. Contributions to this session may include field, analytical, geophysical and modeling approaches to understand the driving forces, coupling, and/or rates of Earth processes from the surface to the mantle in tectonic systems.
