GC33C:
Global and Regional Water-Food-Energy Security under Changing Environments III Posters

Session ID#: 7258

Session Description:
Sustainable management of water resources is an overwhelming task, when faced with a growing population that is increasing its demand for food, energy and water. Ever-increasing demand worsens water scarcity, casting significant doubt on sustainability of food and energy production. Increasing dependence on non-renewable groundwater abstraction has been reported over intensely irrigated regions. Increasing socio-economic development and anticipated climate change will put further pressure on water, as well as agricultural and energy sectors. This session focuses on global and regional assessments of water-food-energy security. We invite submissions on: (i) development of new modeling frameworks identifying hotspots in water-food-energy security, (ii) observations identifying human and climate impacts on water, food or electricity production, and (iii) model- and data-based evaluations of sustainable adaptation strategies by integrating climate, hydrological, biological and social processes at global and regional scales in the face of a growing population and the full spectrum of climate change effects.
