Session ID#: 7286
Session Description:
The UN designated 2015 as the International Year of Soils, to raise awareness of the critical roles of soils in ecosystem management, climate change prediction and mitigation, and in securing food and water resources availability for a society that is increasing in population. The inclusion of soils is essential for effectively addressing these huge global societal challenges. The proposed session is coordinated with representation of AGU sections of Biogeosciences and Hydrology, the TC on Soils and Critical Zone processes as well as those representing the SSSA and GEWEX. The symposium highlights the critical scientific principles that need to be integrated towards managing soils as a key strategy for mitigation and adaptation to human- accelerated environmental changes. The proposed session consists of presentations by four confirmed speakers, representing disciplinary areas in climate science, hydrology, ecosystem science, and agricultural food systems, and concludes with a panel discussion.
