GP43A:
Fundamental Mineral and Rock Magnetism I Posters

Session ID#: 7438

Session Description:
Rock magnetic recordings of the geomagnetic field have a multitude of applications in the Earth and Planetary Sciences: e.g., magnetostratigraphy, paleomagnetism, archeomagnetism, planetary geology, and biomagnetism. All of these applications depend critically on the quality and robustness of the recording and storage of the geomagnetic field in various magnetic mineral assemblages. Here we focus on recent advances in our fundamental understanding of processes that govern the acquisition, preservation and alteration of natural remanent magnetizations at nanometer to planetary scales. Contributions are invited from all areas of mineral and rock magnetism, including new theoretical and experimental approaches, fundamental studies of magnetic minerals and their grain size-dependent properties, advances in characterizing magnetic mineral/grain size mixtures, and quantitative models of the behavior of natural and synthetic magnetic systems. We explicitly solicit contributions that have implications for the magnetic signal (i.e. directions and intensities) derived from complex magnetic mineral assemblages.
