Seismic Modeling and Inversion: Exploring the Earth's Interior III Posters

Session Description:
Seismic tomography is a powerful tool to image the structure of the Earth. This session will focus on case histories studying a variety of geological targets and at different scales. We will address ways in which problems have been solved in real cases.  Major advances have been made in recent years but significant problems, both well-known and lesser-known, remain. These include model resolution, uncertainty, repeatability, and the ambiguities in geological interpretation. Novel approaches to solving common practical problems, illustrated with results using real data, are welcomed. These include the effects of structure outside the modeled region, uneven ray coverage, smoothing, meshing and crustal corrections. Studies that compare real-Earth results obtained using different methods, and assess repeatability, are particularly encouraged. Presentations aimed at non-seismologists, that increase accessibility of tomography results for non-seismological disciplines, are particularly welcomed.
