NH51B:
Flood Risk Management in a Changing World I Posters

Session ID#: 8423

Session Description:
The flood risk in a given region can be defined as a function of the probability of flooding and the exposure and the vulnerability. As a consequence, temporal changes in these quantities will impact the risk. For instance, natural fluctuations in the underlying atmospheric and ocean circulation patterns may significantly alter the flood hazard across time and space while unplanned growing of cities may change the exposure and vulnerability. This session will focus on all aspects of flood risk management, but with especial emphasis on approaches, measures, techniques, procedures and policies that take into account the non-stationary nature of the flood risk. Topics will include: flood risk assessment, prevention and mitigation, preparedness, flood alert systems, response, recovery and post disaster.
