H11B:
Deep Boreholes and Wellbores: Monitoring, Modeling, and Mitigation I Posters
Session ID#: 8608
Session Description:
Deep drilling in crystalline rock poses unique engineering and scientific challenges, expanding our understanding of conditions and processes relevant to deep borehole radioactive waste disposal and scientific continental drilling. We seek submissions related to the siting, drilling, geophysical characterization, in situ characterization/testing methods, and permanent closure of deep boreholes. Descriptions of prospective work and summaries or interpretation of existing data are welcomed. Topics may include hydrogeology of low-permeability rock, geomechanical considerations of deep boreholes, geochemistry of deep brines, collection methods for, and/or interpretation of noble gases and other environmental tracers, advanced borehole/crosshole/vertical-profile geophysical data collection or interpretation methods, and strategies and materials for sealing disposal boreholes.
