Livestock, Land Use, and the Environment Posters

Session Description:
Raising livestock requires nearly a quarter of the terrestrial land surface for pasture and a substantial fraction of all grain produced. While there are important provisioning and cultural services associated with livestock production, there are serious environmental impacts, including deforestation, modifications to global nutrient cycles, greenhouse gas emissions, and water quality issues. This session focuses on global and regional assessments of livestock systems, associated environmental problems, and proposed solutions. We invite submissions on: i) quantifying the distribution of livestock systems, ii) environmental impacts associated with livestock production, iii) characteristics of smallholder livestock systems, iv) characteristics of mixed crop/livestock systems v) methods for achieving improved outcomes.
