Hydrochronology: Advances in Tracer Methods, Modeling Techniques, and Applications of Residence Times in Hydrology Research I Posters
Session ID#: 9161
Session Description:
Residence times - or water ages - are an important characteristic of hydrological systems, controlling water rock interaction, contaminant transport and breakthrough, and water supply sustainability. The intrinsic link between residence time and storage volume provides a unique insight into the vulnerability of a hydrological system or water supply to droughts and climate change. This session is aimed at the integration of residence time studies of surface water and groundwater systems and catchment hydrology. We invite new contributions characterizing the residence times in hydrological systems from multiple tracers and/or tracer and chemical time series, theoretical evaluations and statistical modeling of residence time distributions, and applications of numerical models to investigate residence times. Studies demonstrating how residence time distributions increase our understanding of the hydrological system are encouraged.
