H13J:
Sustainable Use and Protection of Water Resources in Times of Population Growth and Climate Change II Posters

Session ID#: 9745

Session Description:
Balancing competing land and water demands for ecological and human uses presents a complex scientific, technical and policy challenge that is amplified by climate change and population growth. In many regions worldwide, urbanization and agriculture already lead to impaired water quality and overexploitation, which limits the ecological, recreational, and industrial use of water resources. A better understanding of sustainability of surface water-groundwater resources needs improved quantifications of water quality and availability effects resulting from climate change and growth in urban areas and agriculture. This session focuses on innovative, integrated methods to obtain insight into the interactions between the water cycle, land use, and human activities over a wide range of scales. In addition, we aim to discuss solutions for a sustainable use and protection of water resources.
