The M7.8 25 April 2015 Nepal Earthquake III Posters

Session Description:
On April 25, 2015 a M7.8 earthquake occurred in Nepal as a result of thrust faulting related to the convergence between the Indian and Eurasian Plates.  The main shock was followed by a M7.3 aftershock on May 12, 2015.  Preliminary modeling of the mainshock indicates that rupture propagated eastward from the hypocenter along a shallowly-dipping decollement, but did not break the surface. The capital of Katmandu lies within an extensive area that experienced strong shaking, causing catastrophic loss of life and property.  The earthquake also triggered numerous landslides and avalanches.

We invite contributions that provide insights into this earthquake and its geophysical context.  Such contributions may include: source properties, rupture dynamics, co- and post-seismic deformation, the aftershock sequence, earthquake forecasting and statistics, earthquake hazard, the earthquake cycle, short-term and long-term tectonics, and seismic-wave propagation. We encourage submissions from scientists in all related disciplines, including seismology, geodesy, tectonics, geomorphology, and paleoseismology.
