Abstract:
The physical mechanism of chorus generation has been under intense research and debate for a few decades. In this work, we present some recent theoretical analysis and numerical simulations about the excitation process of chorus waves. The theoretical analysis will focus on the linear stage of wave generation, discussing the mode structure and the instability type. Numerical simulations will be used to validate the theoretical results, to investigate the nonlinear part of wave generation, and to provide a few new explanations to existing problems related to generation of chorus and triggered emissions.
