Abstract:
Data from the two OMPS nadir ozone instruments on Suomi NPP, the nadir mapper and the nadir profiler, will be used to extend the ozone record from the series of SBUV and TOMS instruments that extends back to 1978. The version 2 reprocessing uses an updated instrument calibration in the version 8 algorithm. Total column ozone data from the OMPS nadir profiler now agree with data from the SBUV/2 instrument on NOAA 19 to better than 1%. The ozone profiles agree mostly to within 5% throughout the stratosphere. Total column ozone from the OMPS nadir mapper is very consistent with ozone from the NOAA 19 SBUV/2 but with an offset of +1.9%. For the purpose of trend analysis a simple correction will be applied to make the mapper data consistent with the long term data record.
