Abstract:
The SW Region of the Iberian Peninsula is a very active seismic area where moderate to large magnitude events may take place. The first stations to detect events are 50 to 150 km away from the rupturing faults but there are large urban and industrial areas 200 to 400 km away. EEWS can be very effective and produce 15 to 25 seconds alarms. Coastal areas in the nearby region can also benefit from tsunami warnings of 15 to 45 min.

Several techniques have been tried in feasibility studies, leading to very different reliability estimates. This work makes an overall analysis of the different strategies that can be implemented and makes proposal for further enhanced results.
