Modified Electrical Resistivity Survey for Leakage Assessment of a Waterside Concrete Barrage
Abstract:
An modified electrical resistivity survey has been suggested and applied to a leakage detection problem of concrete barrage. We suggest the modified electrical resistivity methods using electrodes floating on the water and apply line current sources instead of conventional point current sources in order to facilitate simple analysis. Furthermore, the study applied the following three variations of modified electrode array: Direct potential array, Parallel potential array and Cross potential array. In this study, first, the characteristics of potential difference graph by array during water leakage were confirmed from the numerical analysis. Next, a experiments on the effect factor of the filed geophysical exploration were conducted by using a barrage model. And then, modified electrode arrays were applied to the concrete barrage in practice in Korea. Finally, all of the results have been compared and analyzed in order to determine the applicability of three modified electrode arrays to water leakage detection of a concrete barrage. As a result, when water leakage occurred, all kind of array operations demonstrated a distinct change of aspect of potential difference in the numerical analysis, model experiment and field geophysical exploration graphs. Therefore, this modified electrode array of electrical resistivity survey, which has been adapted to the concrete barrage, has been found to be a useful method to detect water leakage.
