Abstract:
With one year of the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) satellite data, the GPM Microwave Imager (GMI) precipitation retrievals are validated with the retrievals from GPM Ku band Precipitation Radar (KuPR). Precipitation rates and volumes are summarized within the Precipitation Features (PFs) that are identified by either GMI or KuPR. The false alarms from passive microwave retrievals are shown in PFs with only KuPR precipitation. We also compare the precipitation volumes from GMI and KuPR within the PFs of different properties, such as various depths and convective intensities. GMI precipitation retrievals in two different versions (V03 and V04) will be tested and compared. The results will be presented in 2-dimensional histograms as well as in the geographical distributions.
