Abstract:
The change in proton flux in the outer edge of the inner radiation belt from before to after the geomagnetic storm on 17 March 2015 is investigated by using test particle simulations that follow full Lorentz trajectories. The particles are run over a period of 72 hours in the TS05 + IGRF magnetic field model, with an inductive electric field calculated from the time changing magnetic field of the time stepped TS05. The simulations are compared with the Van Allen Propes REPT instrument for several different energies and pitch angles.
