Abstract:
Besides the detailed measurements of energetic neutral atoms (ENAs), the Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) science objectives call for a better understanding of the acceleration of charged particles as observed at 1 AU. This presentation outlines the synergies of the IMAP mission with Solar Probe Plus and Solar Orbiter to shed new light on the longstanding question of charged particle energization. Strategies to connect inner heliospheric measurements to 1 AU along with observations of local acceleration processes will be discussed. Moreover, connections with Voyager anomalous cosmic ray measurements will be discussed. The resulting measurement requirements will inform the current planning activities for the IMAP mission.
