Abstract:

We will present a preliminary result for ozone profile retrievals using an optimal estimation algorithm from Backscattered UltraViolet (BUV) measurements measured by the Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) Nadir Mapper (NM) instrument onboard the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership satellite. The OMPS-NM covers the wavelength range from 300 to 380 nm with 1.0 nm spectral resolution and 0.42 nm spectral sampling, which was optimally designed to measure total column ozone. The main aim of this study is to extract useful tropospheric ozone information from OMPS-NM BUV measurements. In order to achieve high fitting precision, we will find the best slit function/fitting window and perform detailed wavelength and radiometric calibrations. In order to evaluate our results, the ozone profile retrievals will be compared with coincident ozonesonde measurements and Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) ozone profile retrievals.
