The New AIRS V6 Tropospheric CO2 Product

Abstract:

The Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) on the Aqua platform retrieves the partial column weighted average CO2 mixing ratio over the globe with peak sensitivity at 400 hPa. The data set spans 12 years and supports studies of global circulation patterns and atmospheric processes responsible for vertical and horizontal transport.

The AIRS Project has recently delivered an improved CO2 tropospheric product retrieved by ingesting the AIRS V6 Level 2 retrieval products.

We describe the expanded V6 multi-stage CO2 retrieval algorithm and validate its product and the original Version 5 CO2 product against collocated in situ airborne measurements.
