Abstract:
The nonhydrostatic Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS) model has been coupled to the Data Assimilation Research Testbed (DART) system to produce global ensemble analyses and forecasts, verified against the NCEP FNL (Final) and ECMWF-Interim analyses as well as various observations. The ensemble cycling system has been run reliably on quasi-uniform meshes as well as variable meshes, showing the benefit of a smooth transition to higher grid resolutions.

In this talk, we summarize the characteristic model error that was identified through various month-long retrospective cases, and various ways to deal with them.
