Abstract:
We will outline the design of, and show results from, a global atmospheric model that is based on the non-hydrostatic Unified System of equations proposed by Arakawa and Konor. The Unified System filters vertically propagating sound waves, without the use of a reference state. The only approximation is in the continuity equation. The global model makes use of a geodesic grid and a terrain following vertical coordinate system. It directly predicts the vorticity.
