Abstract:
The effect of vertical resolution is explored with aqua-planet simulations on variable-resolution meshes using the CAM5 physics suite. Results show that different vertical grid spacing have noticeable influences on the structure and amplitude of inertial gravity waves induced by convection. Convectively coupled equatorial waves are also analyzed to investigate theconnection ? between these high-frequency gravity waves and large-scale dynamics. Their sensitivity will be demonstrated using different horizontal resolutions.
