Abstract:
NavManager is a suite of tools developed as part of the Rolling Deck to Repository Program (R2R; www.rvdata.us) for working with shipboard navigation data. We have packaged and published these tools on GitHub as a resource for the scientific community. The code was originally developed to process navigation data collected aboard vessels across the UNOLS fleet. Due to the breadth of both platforms and devices within UNOLS, navigation data is often of varying quality and stored in custom formats. The goal of R2R was to standardize formatting for end users as well as create a standard quality benchmark by which to compare navigation file sets. Tools were made to parse data, produce data quality metrics, and create a suite of quality controlled data products. These approaches provide a standard base for all other vessel-collected data that rely on accurate navigation.
