Abstract:
A number of investigators have presented measurements of the orientation of gravity waves disturbing the nightlow layers. In this paper, we present a global view of the gravity wave orientation reported in the past decade and point out the meridional preferential orientation of the waves toward the summer pole. We discuss the probable causes of such directionality, and also show estimations of dissipating wave forcing on the meridional flow based in airglow imagery and meteor radar measurements.
