Session Description:
This session will bring together paleoclimatologists, geochemists, and climate modelers to discuss techniques and strategies for reconstructing and evaluating past changes in water availability from the recent past through the Cenozoic. We welcome submissions from those using a variety of moisture sensitive proxies and archives including but not limited to carbonates (caves, lakes and paleosols); faunal proxies; plant proxies (tree rings, pollen and plant biomarkers); runoff proxies (grain size and elemental) as well as those who use climate models to determine the driving mechanisms behind past hydroclimatic change. We hope to showcase advances in developing quantitative moisture proxies, proxy-model comparisons, and compelling hydroclimate reconstructions over a variety of timescales and from around the world. This session will provide a forum for discussing recent innovations and future directions in the use and development of terrestrial moisture proxies and models aimed at understanding past hydroclimate changes on seasonal to multi-millennial timescales.
