Session Description:
The need for global reduction of emissions was highlighted by the Paris Agreement which came out of COP21.  Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS) is part of a group of technologies for the mitigation of climate change.  This session will highlight the results obtained from recent European CCS research projects and activities conducted at demo, pilot, and industrial scale.  

Geological CO2 storage requires the integration of many different fields of Earth Sciences, including advances in monitoring techniques and a basic understanding of the physical and geochemical processes controlling fluid migration.  The role of modelling is also fundamental to characterisation of potential reservoir and seal formations and their behaviour during injection and storage. Presentations are invited to cover geological, geochemical and geophysical research related to CCS in Europe. Issues of importance include pilot projects, natural laboratories, site characterization, monitoring, modelling and advances in understanding of possible impacts and risk assessment.
