Understanding the Extent and Impacts of Land-Use/Land-Cover and Climate Change on Ecohydrology II Posters

Session Description:
Land-use and land cover change have the potential to drastically alter the hydrologic cycle. Moreover, recent and projected trends in precipitation may further alter vegetation dynamics and wet and dry ecosystems. The emerging challenges of land system changes from a natural resource perspective are (1) Observing/estimating land-use and land-cover change and hydrologic impacts, and (2) land planning strategies to increase resilience of natural systems optimizing the water use and protecting CO2 balance. Studies are welcomed that quantify hydrologically-relevant landscape change, historical climate change with impacts on rainfall and runoff, and/or examine land-use and land-cover impacts on:

  1. Regional water balance/water resource change
  2. Land-atmosphere water fluxes that highlight the role of the vegetation dynamics
  3. Regional climate/drought characteristics
  4. Hydro-chemical fluxes and nutrient cycling.

We also welcome studies exploring disturbance from natural versus anthropogenic sources and those dealing with uncertainty in selection of land cover datasets or statistical methods.
