Session Description:
Tree mortality and forest die-off have increased markedly in recent decades (Allen et al., 2010; 2015). Climate data indicate that warm area of the land has been increasing and the warm part of the land is drying (Yi et al., 2014). The hotter-drought climate might be a main driver for widespread tree mortality. Global vulnerability of forests to climate-induced tree mortality has become great concerned. Here, we call latest research related to all aspects of climate-induced tree mortality from drought stress, insect attach, forest fire, and other climate change related by using various approaches (e.g. sap flows measurements, tree-ring data, remote sensing image, physiological modeling, forest-climate modeling). The contributions to this session will be invited to submit to a special issue for Environmental Research Letters. Studies on threshold values of climate conditions for drought-induced tree mortality, forest fire, and bark-beetle outbreaks are highly encouraged.
