Session Description:
Hydrologic models and remote sensing are essential tools for studying the changing nature of the terrestrial water cycle and its various components. However, many hydrologic models do not yet couple the natural water cycle with human systems which have now become the major drivers of global environmental change. This session is intended to provide a collective view on (a) progress in hydrologic modeling including human systems (e.g., irrigation, flow-regulation), (b) surface water-groundwater modeling, (c) integration of remote-sensing (e.g., MODIS, GRACE, SMOS, AMSR2, SMAP, SENTINEL-3, SWOT) into hydrological models, and (d) application of integrated hydrological models to address water and food sustainability issues. This session invites multi-scale, multi-variable and multi-sensor studies that use remote sensing techniques and modeling approaches to assess the spatiotemporal variability in water resources and study coupled natural-human systems. Abstracts related to climate change, water and agricultural sustainability, and depletion of groundwater resources are also welcome.
