Threats to Coastal Aquifers: From the Shore to the Sea Posters

Session Description:
Coastal water resources are threatened by a variety of sources, including contamination, groundwater withdrawals and climate change induced changes in sea level, precipitation patterns, and frequency and intensity of coastal storms.  These impacts can lead to increased degradation of groundwater quality and alter hydrologic and geochemical processes in coastal and island aquifers. The session will address the following questions: What hydro-climatic factors are most likely to lead to reduction in coastal freshwater resources? What are the most appropriate adaptive responses to threats to coastal freshwater resources? How can the scientific community best contribute to policies that could ameliorate these threats? The focus will be on the state of knowledge in coastal groundwater processes and socio-hydrologic interactions.
