Session Description:
Quantifying climate change impacts on the terrestrial water cycle remains a challenge because large uncertainties exist in the climate projections and their downscaling. Water resources management is among the anthropogenic activities altering the water cycle in a major way. It is linked to other activities like population dynamics and land use change. The inter-dependencies are not well captured and difficult to project. Recent advances in Earth observation and modeling have led to a better understanding of natural- and human-induced impacts on the terrestrial water cycle and could help improve climate change impact and vulnerability assessments. This session solicits papers related to the changes in the terrestrial water cycle and its interaction with the global environmental change, with the aim to detect and attribute the changes, understand the relevant processes and mechanisms, improve future projection of the terrestrial water cycle and sustain water resources management under future uncertainty.
