Session Description:
Steep landscapes dominate the topographic expression of actively uplifting mountain ranges, are subject to rapid bedrock erosion, and are the primary source of sediment to basins. However, much of the framework developed for quantifying the production and transport of sediment across landscapes is incompatible with rocky hillslopes, boulder-mantled streams, waterfalls, and other elements common to steep landscapes. This session aims to highlight work tackling erosion and sediment transport in these regions. For example: non-local hillslope processes, waterfall processes, coastal cliff retreat, alpine glacier erosion, and sediment transport in steep channels. We welcome submissions that incorporate field, experimental, theoretical, or modeling approaches.
