Session Description:
Water is the lifeblood that connects our global community. Knowing where and how much of this vital resource exists above, on and within our planet is paramount to advancing our ability to cope with water issues today and in the future. Observing Earth’s water from the vantage point of space provides the critical measurements to monitor Earth’s water in the atmosphere, land and oceans as a connected system. This session explores the scientific frontiers of using space-based instruments to address scientific challenges related to modeling Earth’s water budget, improving climate models, understanding and quantifying climate and human induced change and improving the prediction of extremes and hazards that directly impact our society. Topics of interest span the disciplines of hydrology, atmospheric sciences, ocean sciences, Earth and planetary sciences, biogeosciences, global environmental change, remote sensing, natural hazards, Earth and space science informatics and social sciences and policy.
