Session Description:
It has long been known that climatic cycles archived in geological records vary at orbital frequencies. Accurately, identifying these frequencies in geological records is integral towards (1) providing robust astronomical-based age models for comparison of high-resolution, globally distributed geological records and (2) assessing the processes and feedbacks related to glacial-interglacial cycles. Since the acceptance of Milankovitch’s original theory to explain the astronomical forcing of the Quaternary climate, it has since been elaborated upon several times over. Furthermore, as we continue to develop high-resolution globally distributed geological records more questions emerge concerning the pacing of various features of the climate system. This session aims to bring together recent proxy-based, theoretical and/or modeling studies focused on global and regional climate responses to astronomical forcing at different time scales when the climactic regimes were different (e.g., Miocene, Pliocene, Quaternary).
