Session Description:
Glaciers outside of the ice sheets contribute significantly to present-day rates of sea level change, influence local water resources availability and provide proxy information on past climate. Airborne and satellite-based remote sensing platforms have greatly expanded our knowledge of regional-scale changes in glacier mass, volume, velocity, extent and surface condition. Remote monitoring of these systems is particularly challenging due to steep gradients in topography, surface velocity, surface cover and meteorology and requires specialized approaches to measure their changes.  We encourage submissions that assess region-scale properties of glaciers and their change from airborne and satellite platforms. We also encourage studies that integrate remote and conventional ground based techniques, with emphasis on uncertainty analysis and development of improved extrapolation methods.
