B53C:
Geomicrobiology of Extreme Environments: Scarcity is the Mother of Invention II Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session Please know the abstract submission deadline has passed. There are no exceptions to this deadline and no new abstracts can be submitted.
You can still search the program to see your colleagues abstract submissions as well as the sessions submitted for the 2016 Fall Meeting. The final program will be released in early October.

Session ID#: 12747

Session Description:
The session will focus on geomicrobiology of extreme environments. Microbial communities in extreme environments display an intricate network of resource scouring and sharing. Highlighting survival processes and ecosystem functions performed by these microbes, this session will focus on microbial community structure, function, and resilience strategies employed by the microorganisms in the face of scarcity, and explore novel links between geochemistry, geomorphology, and microbiology. We expect abstracts from researchers who study life in extreme environments including arid and semi-arid regions, permafrost, deep-sea vents, mine-tailings, hypersaline environments, and sub-surface sediments to name a few. Talks can range from '-omics' related findings, microbial modeling of extreme environments to better predict response to climate change scenarios, function of these microorganisms in providing soil stability and landscape evolution, and interactions at the geochemistry-microbiology interface.
