Session Description:
Large-scale atmospheric transport and mixing play an important role in the global distribution of chemical pollutants and moisture. Examples include atmospheric transport from the midlatitudes to the Arctic, interhemispheric transport and its relation to tropical convection, the Hadley cell and the Asian monsoon, stratosphere-troposphere exchange and implications for stratospheric and tropospheric chemistry, an stagnation episodes and their association with the storm tracks. Understanding how various components of the general circulation drive transport is essential for understanding how the concentrations of chemical constituents and water vapor vary in time and space. Furthermore, with increasing greenhouse gas concentrations, transport circulations are projected to change in their positions, strength and variability. Thus, for this session, we welcome contributions from observations, modeling and theory on large-scale atmospheric transport and how it may respond to future climate change.
