Session ID#: 12908

Session Description:
Satellite and airborne altimetry have transformed our capacity to study the polar regions, and are central to our awareness and understanding of Arctic and Antarctic environmental change. As a consequence of the long-term observational record, and of advances in instrument design, there has been a progressive evolution in our capacity to observe, characterise, understand, and predict both natural variability and episodic changes in Earth’s ice sheets, ice shelves, sea ice, and polar oceans. This session brings together studies of the polar regions that utilise measurements developed from satellite and airborne altimeter platforms to examine the complementarity of approaches within different scientific disciplines and to advance our understanding of the polar regions. We welcome submissions based on past, current, and future altimeter missions, including ERS, Envisat, ICESat, IceBridge, CryoSat, Altika, ICESat-2, Sentinel-3, and Jason-CS, and we welcome submissions based on the application of altimeter datasets to observe and model polar environments.
